How to Apply or Recertify for Public Assistance Benefits in DC

If you live in Washington, DC, and need help with food, medical costs, or financial support, you can apply for multiple programs using one simple application.

Programs Covered in a Single Application

You can apply for these services using the Integrated Application for Public Assistance Benefits:

All applications must be signed, dated, and submitted to the Department of Human Services (DHS) to begin processing.

 

How to Apply or Recertify

You can apply, renew, or submit a SNAP mid-certification using any of these three methods:

1. Online

Visit the District Direct website

  • Apply or renew your benefits anytime.

  • Skip lines and service center visits.

2. Mobile App

Download the District Direct Mobile App

3. Paper Applications (Mail, In-Person, or Fax)

Download forms online in English, Spanish, or Amharic for:

 

Recertifying or Completing SNAP Mid-Certification?

  • Online: Only available for SNAP recipients via District Direct

  • Paper Forms: Available for SNAP, TANF, and Cash Assistance households in multiple languages

Note: TANF/Cash-only households must submit recertification by mail, fax, or in person.
